Did you know that July is National Parks and Recreation Month?

In celebration of Clayton's parks, Community Center, and miles of greenways here are 5 things you can do this summer thanks to Clayton's Parks and Recreation facilities!

1. Stay cool at Municipal Park’s splash pad:

If you're looking for a fun way to beat the heat this summer, Municipal Park's splash pad is definitely worth a visit. Here are some additional details that might be helpful:

The splash pad is free to use, and Municipal Park also features a playground, picnic areas, and walking trails, so you can easily make a day of it. Don't forget to bring sunscreen, towels, and a change of clothes for the kiddos! The splash pad is located at 325 McCullers Street, and it is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

2. Discover a new hobby at the Clayton Community Center:

Looking for something new to do? The Clayton Community Center has an abundance of classes for all ages!

Whether you're interested in line dancing, tai chi, or chess, there's an activity that's perfect for you.

Visit ClaytonParks.org/Register to view all available programs and sign up for your favorites!

3. Enjoy Clayton's greenways:

Did you know that Clayton's Sam's Branch Greenway and Clayton Riverwalk are both part of the renowned Mountains-to-Sea Trail? This 1,000-mile trail links Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains to Jockey's Ridge on the Outer Banks, and our greenways are a part of it! Additionally, they are also part of the East Coast Greenway that connects 15 states and 450 cities and towns from Maine to Florida.

Come and explore our greenway trails at your leisure, whether you're taking a relaxed stroll or a long hike.

4. Don't leave your pup out of the fun:

Make your way over to the East Clayton Dog Park for a puppy play date. With approximately three acres of leash-free play area, your dogs will have plenty of space to run around and enjoy themselves. The dog park has two enclosed areas – one for small dogs and the other for larger breeds. East Clayton Dog Park is located at 2027 Glen Laurel Road.

5. Achieve your step goal at the Community Center’s indoor track:

Looking for a way to stay active in a cool, indoor environment? Then check out the 1.16-mile-long walking track at the Clayton Community Center! The Community Center is located at 715 Amelia Church Road.

If you're interested in becoming a member of the Community Center, simply visit the front desk with a copy of your driver's license and a utility bill. If you're a resident of the Town of Clayton, membership to the Community Center is free! The Community Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

With so many options available, Clayton's Parks and Recreation facilities are the perfect place to enjoy the summer months. Don't forget to document your summer fun with a social media post and tag Clayton Parks and Recreation!

Happy National Parks and Recreation Month!
