Engineering
The Engineering Department provides technical and engineering support and contract management to various Town departments. The Engineering Departments primary responsibilities are preparing and maintaining the Manual of Specifications, Standards, and Design (MSSD), administration of Capital Improvement Projects (Design, Permitting, Bid and Award, and Construction Administration), review, inspection, and acceptance of new development infrastructure, and stormwater management and erosion and sediment control.
The Engineering Department consists for three primary groups: Capital Projects, Development, and Environmental Engineering (Stormwater and Erosion Control).

Capital Projects

Clayton on the Move
The Clayton Comprehensive Transportation Plan – Clayton on the Move – will identify the Town’s long-term vision for the local transportation network, including roadways, public transit, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. This state-required plan will provide recommendations that the N.C. Department of Transportation will consider for future project funding and development.

Floodplain
Chapter 153A of the North Carolina General Statutes delegated to local governmental units the responsibility to adopt regulations designed to promote the public health, safety, and general welfare of its citizenry. As a result, the Town of Clayton has adopted a local Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.
