Clayton Celebrates Local Linemen on National Lineman Appreciation Day

On April 18, National Lineman Appreciation Day, our public power community will join others across the state and the nation to honor and celebrate linemen and the difficult and important work they do to power our lives.

“Rain or shine, day or night, linemen consistently put service above self to keep the lights on in our public power communities,” said Roy Jones, CEO of ElectriCities of North Carolina. “In storms and other disasters, these first responders brave the elements, clearing the way for other first responders and helping get the power back on for their neighbors as quickly as possible.”

About 125,000 linemen keep the U.S. electric grid operating safely and reliably, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many of them serve the one in seven Americans who get their energy from a public power provider.

“On National Lineman Appreciation Day and every day, I’m proud to join everyone in Clayton and public power communities across our state and country to honor these skilled men and women and remind them that we appreciate and value their expertise, service, and sacrifice,” said ElectriCities’ Roy Jones.

If you are a Town of Clayton utility customer, you are part of a #PublicPower community. You can rest assured knowing that your locally owned and operated utility keeps the power on 99.98% of the time.

That reliability wouldn’t be possible without our linemen, the backbone of public power.

Our linemen are required to make many sacrifices. They're up before dawn, out past dinner, and they work in all kinds of weather conditions.

If the lights come on when you flip a switch, be sure to #ThankALineman—today and every day.
